It’s no secret that Kanye West likes to perform on the largest stage possible—whether spitting rhymes about Louis and Prada during his Disneyworld-style laser light show-concerts or spreading his love of Egyptian paraphernalia to 1.6 million Twitter followers and counting. But every day, it seems Kanye’s stage just keep getting larger. This Thursday, while the rest of us are pounding down turkey, Mr. West will be performing on a float during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Parade reps tell MTV News that the rapper, whose new album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was released on Monday, is set to perform “Lost in the World”—a somber track that features indie rockers Bon Iver—during the parade. There’s been no announcement as to whether falsetto-voiced Justin Vernon of Bon Iver will be joining West, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
Kanye will travel along the parade route on the New York Daily News Big Apple float. “The Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, and of course Macy’s Herald Square, share the landscape with New York’s signature taxi cabs and subway stations on the New York Daily News Big Apple float,” the reps said. “With a giant, 30-foot inflatable apple at its core, the float perfectly represents the frenzied and bustling city.”
Kanye recently told MTV News that “Lost In The World” includes a few of his favorite lines he’s ever written, and considering the breadth of the man’s musical repertoire, that’s quite the statement.
“And it’s also my favorite eight bars that I’ve ever written in my life,” West said of the song which samples Bon Iver’s Auto-Tuned-assisted track “Woods.” “I think it’s one of the greatest pieces of writing, that verse: ‘You’re my devil, you’re my angel/ You’re my heaven, you’re my hell/ You’re my now, you’re my forever/ You’re my freedom, you’re my jail/ You’re my lies, you’re my proof/ You’re my war, you’re my truce,’ and the last line is, ‘You’re my stress, you’re my masseuse.’ ”
