Coachella: Day 2 highlights

When Arcade Fire frontman Winn Butler (pictured above) looked out over the 50 thousand-or-so crazies packed onto the main-stage lawn Saturday night to watch his band, he wore his courtesy, and above all, honesty, on his sleeve. “If you’d told us back in 2002 that we’d be headlining Coachella and playing after Animal Collecive, I’d of told you that you were full of shit,” Butler said.

And he had a point. The fact that indie music has come so far as to practically hijack the main stage for an entire evening at Coachella was something to admire. On the second edition of the three-day spectacular,  when indie music wasn’t reigning supreme, supergroups battled against one another and suburban America’s new favorite band had their grand coronation
